Sniff Sniff
After commenting on a blog the other day about excuses not to exercise I thought about the biggest thing holding me back from exercising in the morning. My allergies. I start getting a massive allergy attack about 3am on my worst days and it goes until about 10am that day, it's about as bad as having a cold but only last a few hours. I can't breathe, I keep sneezing and I feel like I have a fever.
We've tried so many things to get allergens out of our house but not much has worked. We have 2 cats, which I am allergic to but mostly only when I snuzzle them. Getting all the fur off the furniture helps I'm sure but it's hard to keep up with. We've even used one of those machines that is supposed to help but not sure if it ever did.
Getting out of the house helps but not enough. I take allegra every day and now I have eye drops and nose spray. Still, it takes a while to subside it.
I'm not sure this weekend what is wrong with me. Am I just run down? Am I sick with a cold? Are my allergies just so strong that I can't get off the couch? I don't know but it's definitely not fun. Not fun at all.

Try cutting out dairy for a few days… You may get a huge surprise!

@Robin, Dairy is very mucus-forming, so many people report almost instant relief from allergy symptoms when they cut it out.

I am amazed you keep the cats. Sounds like you have vicious allergies…are the cats worth it? (i am a dog person, haha).

@chocolateprn, would your dogs be worth it? my allergies aren’t much about the cats though, it’s everything else. if i get their fur all over me and hug them a lot i sneeze but it ends. My vicious allergies comes from dust, smoke, mold and various other things.

@Robin, did i offend you? sorry if i did, as that was not my intention. (i don’t have dogs anyway, but they wouldn’t be worth it for me). I can’t imagine having allergies like that. Having a head cold for a week makes me wish i could just cut my head off, let alone what you guys go through!

@chocolateprn, a little. my cats are my children to me as i don’t plan to have any human ones =) they are a huge part of my life. in fact, Pilot right now is on my lap snuggling me. i think having lived with them for 6 years i am not so bad but if i go to a house with cats or dogs i start sneezing like crazy. it’s just my life.

I’m also allergic to cats, but not as much as you, I don’t think. I take prescription Allegra (maybe ask your doc for that if you’re taking OTC version?) every night, Flonase every morning, and Patanol eye drops only during certain times of the year. My God, we really do have a lot in common! Seriously though, ask about the Allegra.

P.S. – I’m allergic to other stuff too and have chronic sinusitis.

@Barb, Lately it’s just been horrendous, we’re cleaning the house top to bottom this weekend. I’ve taken everything, I’ve even done shots. When I was in college I had massive allergies and was nowhere near any cats. My allergies are constant and I’m mostly used to them.

@Robin, I’m sorry.
Cleaning the house isn’t going to help, but actually, it might once you’re all done.
Yeah, I’ve gone the shot route, too. I even bathed my cats once a month for 3 months. It actually worked, but it wasn’t worth the hassle. I wrote a post about it a while back. Either my allergies aren’t as bad as they once were, or the Allegra/Flonase really helps. I know the Flonase does. Maybe when you’re old like me you’ll start growing out of it.

I hope you feel better soon!
