So sorry to hear that you're feeling so hungry. I used to be ravenous quite often when I was eating lots of sweets and refined carbs. When I started eating better foods, I felt more satiated and satisfied.

When you're very hungry, it could be for a number of reasons -- perhaps you didn't get enough protein, fiber or fat at your last meal or earlier in the day.

Or maybe you skipped a meal. Or you didn't have breakfast. Or your had the wrong foods at your last meal -- as I mentioned earlier, refined carbs can trigger hunger.

Your hunger could also be caused by foods or drinks with artificial sweeteners or not enough water.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck.

For me, learning to embrace healthy hunger was important. And you know that I'm not talking about unhealthy hunger where you are starving yourself, but rather that kind of hunger that tells you that you aren't overeating.

I was afraid to be a little bit hungry. I honestly hadn't been hungry in 10 years, so the first bit of my journey was frightening. Going from 3500 - 5000 calories to a reasonable amount of food did bring on some hunger.

I did do a lot of the things you mentioned. I would make myself wait 15 minutes before I ate anything "extra." If I was still hungry after 15 minutes, then I ate carefully. Something with protein or whole grains. I also drank a lot of decaf herbal tea. The hot drink helped.

Sorry this is so long. I just know exactly where you are right now. You can get through it.

I know that feeling of not really feeling hungry but just wanting something to eat -- usually something sweet. Some people say eating small meals throughout the day helps.

I used to eat anything and everything, all day, every day - especially if it was white, sweet or chocolatey. But after a time I realised that the rubbish I was eating was affecting my blood sugar levels and I would have huge sugar highs followed by deep lows - that would be my *eat everything NOW* feeling!

The thing that worked? Adding protein and a wholegrain to my breakfast! That was the first step I made down the recovery path - my blood sugar is great now - no gnawing hunger any more, just eating three times a day. And if I can do it, believe me, you can too.

I hope you find your solution! Mine came in the form of finding out more about sugar sensitivity :)
