Less Sugar More Spice

I had another low key weekend, they really are my favorite kind. I love just weekends where there is nowhere I have to be and nothing expected of me. Granted, I got a little too relaxed and missed both the library and the post office on Saturday but I blame my little town for closing it all down by 2pm.

I decided that afternoon I was going to look for some of the more healthy options of food at the grocery store. One thing I got was the agave sugar, which has a better GI level than regular sugar. It has a slightly different taste so it will take getting used to.

I also picked up some bars that I noticed other foodies have mentioned and will try them over the week. I got myself some more of the greek yogurt with honey. The brand I got I didn't LOVE like the Trader Joes brand but I did like it. I decided to go with the cheapest brand, at this point in time.

On Sunday we went for our usual bike ride. I wanted to ride a few times during the week but as you know I was so tired all week. I think I've been so tired because my husband says with my horrible allergies I am not sleeping well. I am not sure what to do at this point. We did clean the whole living room. We even stripped the sofa apart to clean every inch.

As you know my goal is to be able to do the whole length of our street without stopping. It is 1 mile but it is all hills, which obviously is the hardest part. I nearly did the whole ride but then one of my gears went wonky and I had to fix it.

I feel really good about that. I just need to keep an even keal right now to keep my head above water.

  1. I love those low key kind of weekends too! We have a couple of busy weekends coming up, so I tried to really enjoy just hanging out with the family.

Do you know that I haven’t been able to find greek yogurt? I’m going to keep looking. We only have Kroger and Wal-Mart for grocery stores, and they don’t have the best selection of anything.

I hope you are able to get some better rest this coming week. Take care.

Brian picked up some of the TJ’s yogurt this weekend, and it is yummy! A lot better than plain yogurt but also not too sweet. They do carry it in nonfat.

Let us know how you like the agave sugar. Although I use the syrup for oatmeal, I use Equal on grapefruit. Maybe when this package is out I’ll make the switch.

Remember, too, that when you clean house and vacuum and all that, your allergies are going to be a little bit worse before they get better.

As for your bike rides, you know I’m pulling for you! (((hugs)))

@Barb, I’m glad you got to try it. I used a little bit of the agave sugar in my coffee but i am SO picky about my coffee so that i rarely am ever happy with it. the only coffee i ever seem to be happy with is starbucks iced vanilla latte. but it tastes nice and sweet, i thought it was pretty cool but i plan to use it for something other than coffee before i make my decision.

@Robin, I usually take my coffee black, unless it’s from Dunkin’ Donuts, in which case I order a medium with cream and 3 Equals, though I haven’t lately because I think the cream irritates my digestive system. Wouldn’t a “skinny” iced vanilla latte have fewer calories?

Did the agave sugar come in packets like Equal, or a big bag, like sugar?

@Barb, i would have to get used to skim milk again, that’s all i used to drink and now i can’t put it in anything. sigh.

here is what the agave sugar looks like, it’s kind of like honey:

  3. I thought i was reading my own post for a while there. Allergies way out of whack and between that and PMS my sleeping was non existent for a while there.

I’m just learning all about GI and GL in foods and love agave. I found an agave syrup that you can use in place of maple (high fructose) syrup and it’s delicious. I sure wish we had a trader Joe’s near by.

I finally took a few days and didn’t nap , exercised, and took a sleep aid to slowly get my sleep schedule back on track. It’s normal now, and I feel much more sane =)

@Fitness Surfer, i avoid napping, i hate it. i never feel better with napping but it’s been like 2 weeks now with very little sleep so this afternoon after my dr’s appt I decided to take a nap and i do feel a little better.

Ohhh…yes, we have the syrup. I thought they also came in granules.

I don’t ever drink milk unless it’s in something, like a latte. Sorry about the skim milk. :-(
