No Longer A Shadowboxer

Oh, its evil, babe, the way you let your grace enrapture me. When, well, you know, I'd be insane - To ever let that dirty game recapture me. ~Shadowboxer by Fiona Apple

When I was a teenager I didn't want anything to do with the body I was given. I did not want the breasts, the hips, the thighs or anything extra. Want to know what figure I desperately wanted? Fiona Apple. Mind you I think she's just a tiny girl, I don't really think she's sickly (maybe a little bit at the beginning of her career). I wanted to get rid of all my curves, I hated them. I think this may have been around the whole waif era and maybe it sunk into my brain more than I thought it did. I wanted my hip bones and collar bones to stick out, I wanted to be boney. A friend once told me that you know you are the right size if you have three holes between your legs when you stand with them together. Even when I was a size 4 I never had this, I have full thighs no matter how much weight I lose. As a teenager I went through a period of time when I was very unhealthy because to me, being thin was more important than anything. This whole chapter is an important part of my journey, one that I want to share when in the near future. Now I know I don't want that ideal, I now appreciate my curves and a real figure. I saw a picture of a full-figure model on this site and realized that this was what a beautiful figure was to me now.

ps. I woke up at 5:30-ish today and was able to make a real breakfast AND eat it. I made lunch too and was able to avoid the bad traffic and get to work early --> WIN

Good for you for appreciating what you have TODAY! I think that is such a huge, healthy step to take. You go girl :)

When I recently saw Rachel McAdams’s and a young Gloria Reuben’s bare backs in The Time Traveler’s Wife and a season 2 episode of ER respectively, I thought, “They need to put some meat on their bones.” You could see their vertebrae right through their skin! It was kind of gross, really.

I also love curvy figures. No ironing boards for me!

  4. Oh me too! I freakin loved Fiona Apple and longed to be tall and stick thin just like her. Sadly, I realized through being at an unhealthy weight, that I would never ever reach my goal of having stick like legs. Lucky for me, cause without strong legs I wouldn’t be successful in my current career.

    Great song.

  5. In my head I always wanted to be super straight, but my genes just don’t cooperate! Now that I’ve gotten older I realize that all body types are beautiful.

Good for you in getting up early today!
