Picky

Did I mention I am a picky eater? I've always been, since I was little. I hate meatloaf, fat on meat, skin on meat, meat and cheese together and so on. As i've grown up I've learned that I actually like scallops, peas, beans, fish, Tai food and brussel sprouts, most in thanks to my husband who loves a wide variety of food like I've never seen.

Well now that I'm on this journey to eat better, to feel better and to be a better version of myself I've been trying new things. Sometimes I'll try something and it's just not for me but then there is the occasional time I find something healthy that I fall madly in love with.

A little while back I was complaining to a friend how much I love a good burger but the meat itself is so fattening. She suggested buffalo meat and I scoffed (to myself) that this sounded weird. I mentioned it to my husband and he ran out and got some (without asking picky ol me). He cooked me up a burger on a whole wheat bun and you know what? It was delicious! In fact, I found it way more tasty than a regular old cow burger.

I love shopping at Trader Joe's and about everytime I go (every other month usually as it's out of the way on my drive home) I try something new. This time I got the Greek Style Honey Yogurt and wholy hell it was SO yummy. Granted, I got the regular kind not the lowfat but the taste was so subtle and perfect. It was not too sweet but just enough flavor to rock my world.

My world was rocked by greek yogurt and I'm good with that!

Usually I hate yogurt… with it’s snot-like consistency…. But I am so with you on Greek Yogurt!

I’ve been addicted to Stonyfield’s Oikos honey Greek yogurt, but trying to find it in stores can be nearly impossible, unless you like the blueberry flavor. And they’re usually around $1.75 each (!!) But I guess that’s less than Starbucks or whatever. (http://www.oikosorganic.com/greekyogurt/)

It’s 120 calories for the 5.8 oz container, and 0g of fat! YAY!

But I just might have to try Trader Joe’s until I can find the motherload of Oikos.

@Mokona, i am going to try to find that yogurt, the site says they have it at Hanniford but i’ve been fooled before.

  2. I’m really picky too, and sometimes I won’t try something just because I “think” I don’t like it! I often am proven wrong, but there are some things I still don’t like. Brussel sprouts, eggplant, etc., etc.,

We don’t have a Trader Joe’s here, and I feel very deprived!

@Diane, Fit to the Finish, i definitely don’t like eggplant.

  3. I love buffalo meat – it’s so much more flavorful than beef!

I love buffalo meat! I bet you’re not as picky as you think – the more you try things, the more you like them!!!

Oh, and I too love TJs greek yogurt – all the flavors are bomb!

@Lainie, yeah it turns out i’m not as picky as i thought although i should share my issues with fruit, i swear i am getting weirder the older i get.

Aha! I knew when you mentioned it the other day that the honey yogurt was from TJ’s! Now I have to try it.

I’m a picky eater, too. My husband calls it “particular” and that I have rules when it comes to certain foods (like if it still looks like it does when it was alive, I will not eat it). I have been bolder and trying new things. I love being surprised when I discover that I like something that, like Diane mentioned above, I only “think” I don’t like.

@Barb, I found a bunch of kinds at the local supermarket. You should definitely give it a try.

I’ve been eating the Greek strained yogurt for a couple of months now. I get the Fage brand at our local Stop & Shop (and the Super Walmart as well); they sell two brands of Greek yogurt but they other one was really no different tasting than Yoplait of Dannon. Plus, it comes with the topping in a little sidecar, so I can use just as much or as little of them as I want. It costs about triple what I was paying for the Yoplait I’d been buying, but holy hell is it awesome.

@Crystal, I found a kind at Hannaford called Chobani and have not tried it yet. I got a whole bunch of healthy options of foods yesterday to try out but holy hell it was expensive. I think I need to pick the most productive and favorite few items and stick with them.

@Robin, Chobani is the other Greek one we can get, but I didn’t find it any different than regular yogurt. The Fage on the other hand, it’s like eating a brick of cream cheese that tastes like yogurt. Soooo thick.

@Crystal, i’ll have to try it, i went with the cheapest kind and it wasn’t quite as good as the TJs kind.
