Mine has been a long process. I also tend to slip back into old habits but never as bad as i originally was. I started learning about healthy minded stuff back in college 9 years back. I started by following the basic guidelines of Body For Life. I started eating vegetables, switched all my white foods with whole grain or brown rice. Switched to low-fat or healthy fat. That alone made the world of difference.

I always make the most progress with competition or with a team mate. I went off sugar for 3 months. Before that i would have up to 4 candy bar like treat each weekend. After 3 months i couldn't eat 1 candy bar with out getting sick to my stomach. It's a huge eye opener to how bad those things really are for you. I still have one now and then...but only as long as it doesn't make me sick.

Good luck! Oh, and actually throwing out the junk...makes you think before buying it again. When it's really junk it's not waist and not nice to share it with others...here you get fat I'm trying to be healthy =) LOL!

For me, the retraining my brain took time. It certainly didn't come overnight. There were times when my mind and heart were in a disconnect from each other. Over time, each good choice I made was one more step towards making a permanent change. It was almost like putting money in the bank. The more I had, the less I wanted to drain the bank.

You can do this. It is not easy, but you are worth it!!

I love bike rides! Unfortunately we moved out to a really shady areas, so I only bike ride when I fly home. So glad that you and your husband got to do that together.

As for making positive and healthy choices, well, I have a group of foods that I turn to that I know will always satisfy those bad cravings that are low in calories and or high in fiber. I have tons of veggies stocked up, but I also have 60 calorie pudding snacks and fat free cool whip or popcorn in stock. They are my go to snacks when I want that chocolate cake :)

happy monday!

Could it be the new inhaler making you sleepy? You've also been doing an awful lot. Even though exercise, like bike riding, is supposed to increase your energy, maybe it takes a little while, especially if you aren't used to the exercise.

When I was playing a lot of hockey, working out a TON, and eating right, my healthy, high-fiber diet did become the norm. It took a long time and a lot of hard work, though. But I also had a medical condition I had to fight and the way to do it was through my diet.

The bike ride and picnic sounds fun. I love the pictures! And you made it back. :-)
