Attainable Goals

Goals 5 November 2009 | 7 Comments

expectations.jpg So after chatting withSteve (he's so helpful, all of you are) I realized not only have I accomplished a few real goals I set for myself in the way of exercise but I am ready for a new one. I don't want to push too far, something really attainable. Here were my goals so far:
  1. Get back to the gym *CHECK*
  2. Make it an entire workout without asthma attack *CHECK*
  3. Do entire route (nearly 2 miles) on bike and making it over every hill *CHECK*
  4. Do Week One workout of c25k entirely *CHECK*
Now I'm not sure if I want to move onto Week Two or if I want to try for longer time. I guess my question is, what is better? To increase my time on the treadmill or increase my speed? You see, I've never really had an interest of doing a 5k, I just want to be really healthy and in shape. At the same time I want actual atainable goals, goals that won't be too hard to attain. Small steps. Oh and Aurora is mad at me for doing this to her. And by mad I mean she is a lot meaner to me than she usually is. But it's worth it for this picture.

Everybody’s different, obviously, but when I started working out, my goals were to lose weight and increase endurance. At first I could only go 10 minutes on the treadmill, but I gradually increased my speed on it. Eventually I increased the time and the speed.

@Barb, yeah i’ve come to realize that increasing the speed, at least at this point, is what I want to do.

  2. Robin, great job on the goals so far! I think the key is to just keep doing something. If we are moving, we are succeeding.

    BTW, I love the pic!

  3. Since you asked, and you aren’t really interested in doing a 5K I think that I’d work on increasing speed rather than distance. I rarely walked more than 30 minutes, but I always tried to increase the intensity. I still do that to this day.

Congrats on all your goals – I’m so happy for you!

@Diane, Fit to the Finish, thank you, yeah speed seems like what is working best.
