Increased Heartrate Can Release Negativity

The negative thoughts are always there, it's just sometimes I can quell them with either more positive thoughts or just action. The thoughts of "you suck" or "you will fail" may never fully go away but I sure hope they do, I used to thrive off off being negative, that was just who I was, but it's exhausting.

So I am feeling sorry for myself and want to curl up to the sound of bad television go into my little world of numbness. Instead, I put my sneakers on, drag my bike out of the shed (ok so my husband does that part) and pedal down the street. In those 20 minutes all I think about is what an amazing fall day it is and how the air is just cool enough to be refreshing. I think about how I made it over all the hills and how my neighborhood looks like it should be in a postcard for New England autumn.

I get home and I'm a sweaty mess. I am wheezing and my muscles are jelly. I've forgotten all the negative thoughts, at least for now.

  1. Truly, Robin, those negative thoughts are years of habits that are difficult to break. You are, right now, creating new habits. It will take time to replace the old habits, but it will happen.

Do they offer yoga or stretching classes at the gym? That may help.

    Robin Reply:

@Barb, Nope. My gym doesn’t even have showers.

@Robin, maybe there’s a Y or park district that offers those classes? They help, but it takes a while. My mind still races during class.

This post inspired me. Thanks you. Then next time i’m feeling negative i’m going to get out side. I love the sunshine. I need to get more use out of that jogging stroller before my boys are too big to fit in it.

@Krystal, I love to hear that something I said resonated with another, it inspires me to keep it up.

  6. This post was just beautiful and so true. I tend to be a worrier and sometimes feel overwhelmed by it. I handle it just like you said – get out and move. Or just spend time with my kids. Then I can look at things with a fresh perspective.

Hooray for silencing the negative thoughts! I realized just recently that when I’m conscientiously being active, the negative thoughts are at least quieter and easier to ignore (if not gone completely) — I don’t seem to be filled with such self-loathing when I know I’m doing something good for my body.

Keep up the good work! :)

@Chibi Jeebs, me keeping busy is what works absolutely BEST for me for just about everything in my life, unfortunately i’m also naturally lazy.
