The Winter of Working Out
I miss going for a bike ride or a brisk walk down my street after work or on a weekend afternoon. What is it about the winter that makes you never want to leave the house? Maybe it’s because you have to bundle up before you even open the door or maybe it’s that you have to think about every step you take so you don’t slip on ice? There are so many reasons to give up in the winter and I’m trying really hard not to let the winter win this year.
I have a few DVDs I’m working with but none are really fitting me how I’d like but I don’t know what it is I want. I have a bunch of the 10 Minute Workout videos and I do like them. I mean I love the idea of having them in 10 minute increments depending on my energy that day how much I do. I was disappointed to find out that the two dance videos I got I was having too much trouble keeping up with the moves and dancing used to be my thing. When did I become a 45 year old 31 year old?
My 32nd birthday is approaching. In fact, it’s exactly 1 month from today. I need a goal but I don’t trust myself to complete it. I want to for the next 30 days workout every single day, even if for just 10 minutes. I want to prove to myself I’m still really young and haven’t given up.
ps. Any good workout videos you can recommend that are fun but not so hard that they will make me throw up my hands in the air in defeat?

Personally, 30 days seems like a lot to me, but maybe look at it in 5-day increments. That’s just me, though. But it worked last April when I did that write one poem a day for 30 days. I know that’s totally different, but it was still a goal and I had some leeway in that I could skip a day — maybe if you skip a day, do 20 minutes the next day. No matter what, I’m rooting for you.

@Barb, But the key is, I just have to do some. It can be 30 minutes or 10 minutes. It can be a walk or just weights.

I don’t have any workout DVD’s I love, but I love the idea of setting a 30 day goal for yourself. Like Barb, everyday workout might be a lot to commit too, but I believe that you can do it!
I’m glad to see you around Robin. I’ve been wondering how you have been doing this freezing cold winter!

Don’t let the winter make you feel defeated. If you conquer the winter this year, ever winter from here on out will be much better. I use to feel the same way about the winters until I forced myself to go outside and exercise. While I still prefer the summer, I don’t hate the winters nearly as much.

@Fit Chick in the City, I wish I could workout outside but it’s all snow and ice and the cold gives me asthma but I’m trying to get myself to work beyond this.

You can do it!
It is good to have goals and trust in yourself to do them. I ran a 5k and before that, never ran in my life, and I am also a person who has a defeatist attitude, trust me! you can do it, just set your mind to it!
I would say, start slow, and build yourself up to it, make yourself walk first, and then cut out a few things from your diet and then gradually build yourself up to doing more walking, and cutting more things out and putting better things in. like I cut out sodas and the overdose on sweets that I love. I cut them out gradually BUT you should still allow yourself to enjoy the things you love no matter what.
Try the 30 day shred, many people swear by this. But maybe just start walking, walk everywhere and anywhere, if you can, get on a treadmill and set it for like 35 and just walk as fast as you can…then you will see your body will want to do more.
I would say you can set a goal to do something for 15 mts everyday or 30 three days a week and it will make a difference after a few weeks and you will want to do more.

@Jen, I’m going to wait on the shred, only because i am so out of shape. after this 30 day thing I might do it.

I’ve heard great things about the 30 day shred. I don’t own any videos to recommend.
